Starting in 2022, a new on-demand transit service will be added to RTC’s public transit offering. The service is called Flexibus and will complement RTC’s current offering. Eventually, seven targeted zones will be served by the on-demand transit service to meet local travel needs.

What is on-demand transit?

It is a reservation-based public transit service that allows you to travel within a targeted zone or connect to a frequent-service network.

  • Public transit using an immediate or pre-programmed reservation (no fixed schedule)
  • Replies to booking requests within approximately 30 minutes
  • Trips tailored to customer requests (depending on origin and destination locations); no fixed route
  • Pick-up and drop-off at virtual stops within the same zone (local trip) and network connectivity
  • Cost equivalent to bus travel, including transfer

How does it work?

Customers will be able to make reservations for transportation via a mobile app linked to Nomade, on a website or by phone. Customers will be able to pay for and validate their transit tickets using the RTC Nomade Paiement mobile app or their smart card (OPUS and Occasional). The RTC fare schedule will apply for Flexibus.

Since it’s a public transit service, and depending on demand, several customers may share the same vehicle. The vans will be able to transport up to 8 customers. Some of the vehicles will be accessible to people with reduced mobility.

In concrete terms, customers will be able to use Flexibus for all kinds of trips within a single zone, such as getting to a bus stop, running an errand at the local grocery store or pharmacy, or going to the arena.

Why the name Flexibus?

Flexi : since the service is flexible, both in terms of schedules and routes.

Bus : signals the fact that it’s public transit and associates it with RTC.

The shape of the logo fits in well with RTC’s brand portfolio.

Its colour makes it easy to spot on the network and perfectly complements the current colour palette.
